NDIS Respite Care

Home of Choice & Care understands how demanding it can be to care for individuals living with disabilities. Our NDIS Respite Care service provides much-needed support, providing a temporary break for caregivers and specialised care for participants. Whether you are a primary caregiver or an NDIS participant, our respite care services are tailored to ensure comfort, well-being, and peace of mind for all involved.

NDIS Respite Care

Under NDIS

Respite Care is a valuable support service that falls under the umbrella of Short-Term Accommodation (STA) within the NDIS framework. STA is funded through the Core Support category under the section-‘Assistance with Daily Living.’

Funding

Generally, STA funding covers up to 28 days per year, and participants have the flexibility to use this in various ways. For example, you can choose to use the 28 days in blocks, such as 14 days at a time, or spread it out over weekends across the year.

Support and Services

STA funding provides flexibility in how support is delivered, allowing participants to share services with others to maximise the value of the funding. While most funding is for group settings, individual support is available if the participant’s specific disability demands it. The funding covers a wide range of services, including care, accommodation, meals, and activities

Respite Care Options at Home of Choice & Care

We understand that different families have different needs, which is why we offer both in-home and out-of-home respite care services.

In-Home Respite Care

Our team of professional caregivers can provide care directly at the participant’s home. This option allows participants to stay in their familiar environment, which can be comforting for individuals who prefer to remain at home. In-home respite care also ensures that participant’s routines and preferences are respected, providing a seamless experience.

Out-of-Home Respite Care

We also offer respite care at our specialised facilities, where participants can engage in social activities, receive care in a safe and secure environment, and enjoy a change of scenery. Out-of-home care is ideal for participants who benefit from social interactions and engaging activities with others.

Examples of In-Home & Out-of-Home Respite Care Services

Emergency Respite

We offer emergency respite services to provide immediate support for caregivers facing crises. Our trained professionals ensure that individuals with disabilities receive the necessary care while caregivers attend to emergencies or unforeseen circumstances.

Centre-Based Respite

Our centre-based respite services take place in dedicated facilities where participants can engage in a variety of activities. We create a welcoming environment that allows individuals to socialise with peers and enjoy a structured routine tailored to their unique needs.

Community Access Respite

We believe in the importance of community inclusion, which is why our community access respite services allow participants to join local activities and outings. Our staff support individuals in exploring their surroundings and forming social connections.

Overnight or Weekend Respite

We can send a paid worker to your home or a facility to care for your loved one overnight or on weekends. This is good for people who need help at night, such as turning in bed, or who don’t need much overnight care.

Residential Respite/ Short-Term Accommodation Assistance (STAA)

We provide short stays at our care residence or centre, accommodating participants for one night to several weeks.

  • Level 1: We offer between 7 to 14 days of respite each year for families who rely mainly on family support.
  • Level 2: Our Level 2 service provides 14 to 28 days of respite per year and includes tailored strategies to help participants build skills.
  • Level 3: We also offer 28 days of respite each year for families with significant behavioural challenges or who need more intensive assistance.
Recreational Respite

We prioritise enjoyment and engagement through our recreational respite services, offering a range of fun activities such as arts and crafts, sports, and games. This approach not only brings joy but also fosters social interaction and skill development in a nurturing atmosphere.

Who Can Benefit from NDIS Respite Care?

Both NDIS participants and their caregivers can benefit greatly from respite care services.

NDIS Participants

For individuals living with disabilities, NDIS Respite Care offers opportunities for new experiences, social engagement, and consistent support. Whether care is provided at home or in an external setting, participants are looked after by highly skilled professionals who understand their unique needs.

During respite care, participants can enjoy:

  • Break from daily routine
  • Opportunity for new activities
  • Relax in a comfortable environment
  • Positive impact on mental health
  • Enriches overall well-being
Caregivers and Families

Primary caregivers often experience significant stress due to the demands of their responsibilities. Whether caring for a family member or loved one, balancing personal commitments with caregiving duties can be challenging. Respite care allows caregivers to take time off to manage personal tasks, focus on self-care, or rest without feeling guilty.

By providing caregivers with a break, Home of Choice & Care:

  • Provides caregivers with a much-needed break
  • Allows them to recharge and rest
  • Returns them to their duties feeling refreshed
  • Offers support during their time off
  • Helps them resume caregiving roles with renewed energy

Steps to Access NDIS Respite Care

Accessing NDIS Respite Care through Home of Choice & Care is a straightforward process. Here’s how families can begin:

Consultation and Assessment

We begin with a consultation to learn about the participant’s and caregiver’s needs. This assessment helps us create a tailored care plan that best suits the individual’s requirements.

Creating a Care Plan

Once the consultation is complete, we work with families to develop a personalised care plan. This plan outlines the type of care required, the preferred location (in-home or out-of-home), and the duration of the respite care.

Ongoing Support and Reviews

Respite care is not a one-time service. We provide ongoing support and conduct regular reviews of the care plan to ensure it remains effective and adaptable to any changes in the participant’s needs.
